Product Review

The SD50 features a Solid Sitka Spruce top that is preferred by guitar builders for its superb tone and projection. Beautifully crafted with wine red mahogany back and sides with back inlay and full binding on the body and neck.

I bought this guitar several weeks ago as a graduation gift because of 2 main reasons:
- solid spruce top
- gold Grover tuners
These are features typically found on guitars selling for much bigger bucks.
When I received it, aside from the fact it did not appear to be new (minor scratches, missing packing etc...but it was in acceptable condition...could have been a "2nd" or a return?), it did not disappoint.
The strings were D'Addario's, the action was good, no fret-buzz, nice tone & plucked harmonics.
The neck, back & sides are not real mahogany...other reviewers here have done an excellent job researching this (see YOYO's review)...it is apparently "nato"...which is a less expensive mahogany-like wood...but it works!
There is at least one Youtube clip on the internet of someone playing this model, and it sounds pretty good...and similar to the one I got.
As a comparison, I have a Takamine/Jasmine S34C,...Read more

I purchased this guitar because the features versus price was very competitive. And then I was amazed at the sound. I don't think you can find a better sounding, better looking or better priced acoustic guitar anywhere. This thing is incredible, and sounds like a guitar that costs hundreds of dollars more. The craftsmanship is excellent, with the solid spruce top and mahogany sides, and the acoustic sound is unbelievable. Take a look around, but if you get the chance to play the Silvertone SD50, you'll be quite surprised.

I got this guitar as a lightning deal and I'm glad I did. Out of the box, the guitar was a beauty, though it doesn't look like the picture shown... it was actually much prettier. The headstock is small and shapely. The Nato magohany sides and back and the pickguard was a dark red. The solid top was clear and bright Sitka spruce, contrasted with the red, the guitar looked very distinct and appealing. Even the rosewood bridge was redder than other rosewood I've seen. The solid top is kinda thin compared to other solid tops I've seen, but the sound was bright, defined, bouncy and crisp. Projection was good. This guitar is also VERY light.

Playability: out of the box, the action was a bit high and the neck was a little bowed, so the setup needed a little touching up. It came with an allen wrench and instructions on how to operate the truss rod. After tightening it up a little, the action got better but still could be lower. Because of that however, there's no fret buzz at all...Read more
