The Seagull Artist Portrait CW (Cutaway) QII Guitar - Featuring the Godin QII (Quantum 2) Acoustic Guitar System
The Portrait combines a select solid spruce top guitar with mahogany back and sides. The spruce top and the high gloss custom polished finish increase the power of this guitar considerably. This is a versatile instrument suitable for any number of musical situations. More About the Godin QII (Quantum 2) Acoustic Guitar System The Godin EPM Quantum II acoustic guitar system provides outstanding sound reproduction and performance.
The Quantum II is a hybrid system combining an exceptionally responsive saddle transducer and high quality electret microphone in a simple, but very effective, configuration. The microphone capsule, specifically designed for use in this application, is mounted at the end of a 6 inch flexible boom integral to the side mount electronics. Four rotary controls adjust microphone presence / phase, overall volume, and saddle transducer bass & treble. Electronics and controls are packaged in an easy to use and logical format complemented with a finely crafted pewter cover plate.
Microphone signal can be added and blended either in phase or out of phase with the saddle transducer signal. This allows the user to cancel (or notch) potentially undesirable frequencies while accentuating others. This flexibility in combining signals results in outstanding clarity and richness of tone.
The Godin QII also includes a built-in high quality digital chromatic tuner with LED display.
The Seagull Artist Series Guitars
The new compound curve top concept was originally developed for the Seagull Artist Series guitars and it is in these models that the new design really proves itself. The Artist Series luthiers choose from the very best of a stockpile that includes over a hundred thousand, luthier-grade, solid cedar and spruce boards. In fact, all of the tone woods for the Artist Series are hand-selected to ensure that the very highest standards are met. The scalloped bracing is designed to such precise tolerances that it requires a CNC milling machine to carve the individual pieces to the exact specifications. The finished instruments speak with incredible clarity and character—and that’s before they open up! These guitars develop an even deeper character when ‘played-in’ and will no doubt become lifelong companions to those who choose them.
The new models will look familiar to Seagull enthusiasts, the straight-pull headstock remains--now adorned with a new 'Artist' logo--and the standard Seagull body shape has been altered only slightly with a narrower waist. All models are made with solid backs and sides. The impact of solid sides on the sound of a guitar is virtually immeasurable.
Sound and feel are where the new Artist Series guitars really distinguish themselves. The clear bottom end response arrives with plenty of punch and provides a suitable foundation to the harmonically rich sound that sits on top.
All the Artist Series Models are finished with a custom polished finish. The technique on semi-gloss models produces a beautiful sheen reminiscent of an antique violin finish. The spruce top models are also finished with a custom polished finish but a slightly thicker coating is buffed to a high gloss. The less delicate nature of this finish makes these models more appropriate for more aggressive playing.
More About Seagull Guitars
The Seagull story wouldn't be complete without mentioning La Patrie. La Patrie is a small village in the Eastern Townships of Quebec. This is where the first Seagulls were made in the early eighties. Today, La Patrie has a population of about 475 and about half of these people are guitar builders. These folks take a great deal of pride in the guitars they build.
This review is from: Seagull Artist Portrait CW QII Guitar (Electronics)
I have played for about 25 years and wanted a new acoustic. I'm having to travel with it a lot so I need something that sounds good but is tough. This guitar rivaled the sound of a Taylor 714 that I was looking at and cost 1/4 of it. The tone is beautiful, it is very well crafted, and the QII electronics allow a great range of sound. Don't forget about the TRIC case though! I have never seen anything like it, but want one for my old Harptone too! They are made of some foam like material, covered with a nice gig bag style cover, and the interior is some molded stuff. So why are they great? There is very slow temperature changes once inside! Great for travel! It also absorbs more impact than any other case I have owned. Do watch the shoulder strap adjusters though. One of the plastic pieces was broke out of mine. No big deal, I drilled and put in a metal pin instead. It is stronger now and I don't have to fear plastic strap buckles.
