Product Review

A great introduction to a pre-war style acoustic guitar, the Classic Series I has fine craftsmanship and a natural acoustic tone. This guitar features a solid spruce top, mahogany or rosewood back and sides, fully scalloped forward-x bracing and a mahogany neck. A new standard in sound and value, the RD-06 and RD-07 illustrate the skill of the Recording King luthiers. We’ve crafted a solid-top guitar with a sound so amazing it rivals that of guitars three times as expensive. Assembled with the perfect combination of sonic excellence, careful craftsmanship and attention to detail, we’ve produced a guitar that sounds like a million bucks, but costs far less.

I originally was looking for a decent inexpensive 12 string guitar that I could knock around with and saw the Recording King on Amazon. When I purchased it, it had a rave review about how for the price it had a solid spruce top (one thing that sold me) and decent workmanship. After I got the guitar via Amazon, I tuned it up and started to play. I realzed that the action was too low and the frets were anything but dressed, scraping my hands as I wandered up and down the neck. I took the strings off and decided to place a small shim under the saddle to raise the action a bit so that the strings on and above the 12th fret wouldn't buzz (which didn't do the job, neither did adjusting the truss bar). When I did this the nut came off, it was never glued to the neck! Just this past week I noticed that the bridge was pulling off of the top, even though I kept the strings slack when not in use. I once again checked the review on Amazon and found that a good review turned into a one star...Read more

I am blown away by the sound of this guitar. It came with a proper set up and low action. I initially was dismayed as the top had a flaw on one side in the wood but it doesn't affect the sound. The sound of this guitar is impressive. After 4 months of ownership the neck developed a ski jump curve. The neck angle was too far off to fix with the truss rod. The saddle is already very tall. I was able to partially straighten the neck by using the truss rod. Only problem is that strings are now all lying flat against the frets. Now I could put a bigger nut on it to increase the height. I can't increase the height of the saddle as it's very high already. Unfortunately I put a pick up on this guitar so if I send it back I will most likely lose the pick up because I won't get the same guitar back. The sound was very good to begin with but I cannot recommend this guitar. To many QC issues.
