This review is from: Oscar Schmidt OGHS 1/2 Size Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar (High Gloss) (Electronics) Bought this for my son. It appears to be well constructed. Nice looking little guitar. The sound is ok - you really can't expect a whole lot from a 1/2 size guitar. It sounds like a small guitar. Stays in tune pretty well. I chose this one because it is one of the few 1/2 size guitars with an adjustable truss rod. So far very satisfied with the purchase. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful: By Nolan K "Avid Reader" (Ball Ground, Georgia) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Oscar Schmidt OGHS 1/2 Size Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar (High Gloss) (Electronics) This guitar stays in tune very well and better than any inexpensive guitar I've ever owned. I wasn't expecting the guitar to stay in tune this well. This is not a toy but a real musical instrument. It does need a little bit of setup work as the low E string buzzes because of contact with the frets when played from the third fret down other than very lightly. But setup work should be expected with all inexpensive guitars and usually the strings are too high off the fret board rather than too low. But your experience may vary as far as the set up goes, you might get lucky but it will probably need some work to make it as good as it could be. For the money I spent, I am absolutely thrilled with this guitar. Sounds great too you can't expect a lot of bass or volume from a small body. I'd love to see a model with a solid spruce top. 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful: Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Oscar Schmidt OGHS 1/2 Size Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar (High Gloss) (Electronics) The title says it all - it is a fantastic first guitar. For the price, you can't beat it. I bought this for my (very petite) nearly seven year old to learn on. The quality is great and it has a select spruce top. As if that isn't enough, it's pretty! The sound is good considering the size. I chose this guitar for a few reasons:
1) The neck is smaller than a classical, therefore it is much easier for small hands to reach all the strings. 2) The sound is brighter than the classical. 3) It is the best quality in its price range. Although most beginners are advised to use nylon string (classical) guitars, I chose the steel string guitar because of the reasons above, and I am very happy. There are a couple drawbacks, however: 1) The action is just a tiny bit high, and therefor a little difficult for tiny fingers not accustom to pressing the strings. 2) Although it is shown with one in the picture, a pickguard is NOT included...Read more |
