The electronics (if you use them) are well worth the roughly $50 price increase. I bought this guitar for my son, for his 18th birthday. He will be going off to college next year, and I thought it would make a great dorm guitar. With the travel (he's looking at being around 2,000 miles from) - it seemed like it would be a convenient size. I own two high-end Martins and he usually plays one of them...that he's pretty much claimed as his own, but he admits he would be a little nervous about it in a dorm (at least at first). We test drove the Little Martin and the Baby Taylor. Both are excellent 3/4 size guitars. As most reviews state, we found the Martin to have a warmer tone and the Taylor to have a brighter tone. Both of us prefer what we consider to be the richer tone of the Martin so I went with the Little Martin. The sound for such a small guitar is amazing. The joints, seams and finish are excellent. A lot of child sized guitars look and sound more like toys than serious musical instruments, but the Little Martin is definitely a real guitar that can hold its own against the big boys. It never fails to make me smile when he goes to a gig or open mic night and not only are the older musicians impressed with his talent...they all drool over his guitar too! Due to file size restrictions, I had to reduce the quality of this video quite a bit but hopefully it provides at least a small example of what a Little Martin LX1E can do. With the quality Martin is known for, I know this guitar will last a long time and continue to inspire my son's wildest rock...Read more |
