Let's face it, when you purchase a guitar with all this fretboard inlay work, you really want a pretty guitar and a perfect finish. Unfortunately the first Key Largo Musician's Friend shipped to me had serious scratches in the picking area. It looked to me like it had been played quite a bit already by someone who wasn't too careful about his jewelry. No problem getting it exchanged for another, but that meant a couple weeks more before I had the second attempt.

Unfortunately the second guitar had some issues as well, although I opted to keep this one rather than go through the swap routine once more. The electronics box in the side of the body wasn't seated all the way in its mount, and couldn't be fully seated. I had to unscrew the whole assembly from the body and get the wiring untwisted inside the mount so that the electronics could seat properly. It also has a blemish in the finish where the neck & body join, but this was minor enough that I decided to live with it...Read more

I own several high end guitars, Martin D-28, Ovation Custom Legend, Gibson Les Paul Custom, etc. I bought the Dean for show. This is one beautiful guitar. The inlay work on the neck is terrific, and the abalone around the soundhole is outstanding. I thought it would look great in the lights, and it does! Now the surprise. This guitar sounds and plays great. I did change the gauge of some of the strings, but that straightened this axe out terrific. It is not a D-28, but it is no slouch either. I find I'm using the Dean for live perfomances, and the Martin to record. Buy this guitar!

This is an absolutely stunning guitar, just beautiful. When you take it out of the case, everyone has to look at it. However, it was unplayable when I received it from a music store in NYC and I had to spend about a hundred dollars to have it reset at a local music store (would have bought it local, but nobody has Dean guitars in my area. I had contacted the manufacturer, and they were no help at all. It is now playable, but the action is still really hard and it has kind of a tinty sound. That being said, I have noticed the sound has improved over the last year that I have owned it. Overall looks of the guitar, 5 stars out of 5, as far as the sound 3 stars. Electronics 4 stars.
